Planting Design and Garden Design

The design process is clearly explained and you will be guided through the process from conception to the finished design.


       Design services may include:

  • Garden design - for a complete garden makeover or partial changes

  • Planting Designs - design for planting of borders and layout of plants in your garden, with plant specification lists

  • Garden surveys - an indepth look at the area of your garden to be re-designed

  • Moodboards - explore the style you want, the colours, textures, materials and plants

  • 2D plans and 3D graphics - presentation of concepts using 3D graphics and plans in 2D

  • Final master plans - the finished design for your garden which can be read by professional landscapers to implement.

  • Construction drawings - cross-sectional plans detailing elements of the design which have specific construction requirements.

  • Garden Design Proposals - changes to your garden with a written document

  • Estimates to implement the design

  • Post-implementation garden care - your garden cared for once the design has been implemented to keep it looking great.

Garden Consultations and Landscape Management

Garden consultations are offered to help plan the future development of your garden. Creating garden management and maintenance plans as well as long-term and short-term garden development plans.


Working with private individuals to plan and develop their gardens for the long-term, introducing improvements in layout and planting styles. Also working with agencies in the care and management of multiple properties, advising on continual garden improvements and plant care.

Planting Projects - Soft Landscaping

Specialising in the planting up of a variety of garden projects. Previous projects have involved; borders in a newly landscaped garden, hedges for screening or wildlife, planting for commercial sites, bulb planting for autumn and spring colour, indoor office plants, installing planters on a care home roof garden, soft landscaping for a herb and kitchen garden, small trees for front gardens, the list goes on.

Finding you the best quality plants for the job, from a variety of plant nursery contacts, taking the utmost care to establish plants in your garden. All planting work is undertaken by skilled professionals with RHS qualifications.

About Andy Bending

Andy Bending BSc(Hons), Dip GD, has been designing gardens and creating them since the early 2000s. Mainly in the UK, but has worked on gardens in Hawaii, Florida, and in Australia. In 2000 Andy designed a school garden for students in Fortaleza, Brazil.

He studied garden and planting design with Caroline Tatham at Cotswold Gardening School and with David Stevens. Whilst traveling in 2008, Andy worked alongside Tom Kendall in Queensland, Australia, learning practical permaculture. He has a BSc (Hons) in Landscape Management from the University of Reading.

Returning to Bristol, Andy worked as a volunteer workshop facilitator on a St.Werburgh's allotment project with Grofun.

In 2012, Andy set up Bristol Organic Gardening, with a chemical-free ethos at its core, and created the Homegrown project, creating edible gardens for self-sufficiency and self-reliance.

In 2018, Andy designed and created a show garden for the Green Living Spaces at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival. The garden won a RHS Silver-Gilt medal and People's Choice award and was featured on BBC Gardener's World. The garden featured artwork by Bristol based artist Steph Renshaw.

Andy Bending is a Pre-registered member of the Society of Garden Designers and is working towards full membership.

Gardener collabrations

Kate Sykes - post installation garden care - Kate is Bristol's number one cycling gardener, with outstanding horticultural knowledge. A certified RHS Horticultural gardening expert. It's great working with Kate on a variety of planting projects throughout Bristol, she is committed to organic gardening practises and improving the world we all live in.

Jim Rossinsky - planting expert and RHS Horticuture qualified, with not just one but four distinctions! Jim's new to gardening, a career change from journalism, now on a crusade to make beautful gardens with wildlife in mind. It's been great working with Jim on a variety of garden creations and soft landscaping projects. He has a passion for all things gardening and the great outdoors.
